Antique Large Chinese Silk Phoenix Bird Embroidery. Up for sale is the large Chinese silk embroidery delicately embroidered a phoenix bird on a textile background, dated likely mid to late 19. The embroidery features a phoenix bird or fenghuang with nine tail feathers, clouds and waves.

The background is fully embroidered with fine and elaborate patterns. The back also shows a fine needlework. Fenghuang is a mythological bird in Chinese culture as a symbol of high virtue and grace that reigns over all other birds. Each part of fenghuangs body symbolizes a Chinese character, respectively, including virtue.
