Antique Large Shaped Washbowl and Stand

  

A beautifully made and shaped piece of funtional furniture with a tray would be great for plants. Just to give you an idea of the history of this piece, i would like to point out that it is made of small shaped planks formed in the shape of the washbowl and bound arround by two pieces of twisted wire.

The fitting together with all the ang;les and shaped edges would have gone beyond the barrel makers art. Incidently try finding an end or a join to the twisted copper wire banded about it, then spend many happy hours thinking "How did they do that". The small planks that the washbowl is constructed of would have come from the smaller branches of the tree with the trunk used for major constuction. The branchs used to make the beautiful item would in contempory Britian not be deemed worthy of being used for fence posts but with much craft and a dilligent mindset this useful washbowl was made and lasted 100 years of use. The washstand is 42 cm across and 63 cm high.
