Extra large antique Chinese hairpin with two'ruyi' symbols (4049)

Extra large antique Chinese hairpin with two'ruyi' symbols - (4049). Huge Gilt silver hairpin decorated with two'ruyi' symbols. A'ruyi' is a'wish-granting' scepter which was given by the emperor to people who had been of service to him. The word'ruyi' stands for'As you wish' and means that all your wishes should come true. In the centre of the'ruyi' heads is a'shou' (Long life) character. The pierced backs depicts two coins which symbolize'Wealth'. There is no silver mark. This hairpin dates from around 1900 and is still in good condition but of course it has some wear and tear as it has been cherished for so many years. There are some very tiny, hardly visible, holes in the ruyi. The size of this item is impressive. Width at its widest point 7.5 cm. The difference will be reimbursed.
