Antique late 19th Century Chinese hand carved polychrome sculpture of a child/boy. Probably made at the end of the 19th Century towards the end of the Qing Dynasty. He's carved from hardwood and has been painted on more than one occasion as the gloss brown paint that covers most of the lower body is more of an early to mid 20th century colour.

Luckily most of it has been taken off to reveal the lovely original colours and patina. At some point the base he's stood on has split in two, including his feet.

A piece of wood has then been attached to the underside with nails. Now this is deteriorating and further stabilisation is needed as he is a bit wobbly.

He stands 82cm high and the base is 34cm x 25cm. He is in what I like to call wabi-sabi condition, that is to say he is perfectly imperfect but he's still smiling. He's very decorative and now looking for a new adoptive family. Please take a close look at all of the photos as they also form part of the description.
