This exquisite piece of art is a large antique hand-carved Chinese communal serving bowl or plant pot holder. The craftsmanship is remarkable, and it is made of high-quality woodenware.

Handmade and hand-carved communal food bowl measuring 48 cm across at widest point by 26cm deep and 27 cm tall. Inside measurements 36 x 24 cm at the widest points.

There are carved pictures in each corner of beautiful bats a good luck symbol in most parts of the world where there are mosquitoes. In the center is a picture of a man offering a beautiful lady a cup and all three pictures are joined together by a scroll also hand carved. The basin looks almost black indoors but when the sun shines on it it becomes a deep trancent red showing the grain in all its beauty.

There is also a hand-carved fretwork draining board carved to show a sun with two dragons one to each side. And two handles, one to each side one chipped are carved as nuts. Made of small pieces of wood held together by two metal bands it lasted perfectly for 150 years. This beautiful item would originally have had an extra lid above the main body t o preserve heat. If used as a flower pot holder would require a tray inside.
