A very large fabulously carved hardwood Qing Dynasty Chinese Alter Table with dragons on side panel fretwork and vases of flowers across the front and rear fretwork. Beautiful patina, probably mid to late 19th century. What is outstanding with this Alter Table is the patina and quality of the carving. Length 203 cm, depth 62 cm, height 121 cm. Excellent overall but some opening of top panel joints so needs a little gentle restoration work (clamps to force joints back together).
This item also has an interesting history. It was collected from an old Chinese family in Indonesia in 1983. It had a bullet hole in one of the legs (now repaired) supposedly from a raid from the Indonesian military during the Suharto era. The fretwork was also a little damaged (again now repaired). Its all there, even to the bronze finials on the base of the legs.
If you want more detailed photos of the joints and damages please let me know. 5 October 2019 - Just added some insitu photos to show underneath and the extent of the openings on panels.
As I said above, the table needs some restoration works and particularly re-clamping!!! This item is in the category "Antiques\Asian/Oriental Antiques\Chinese\Woodenware". The seller is "brianbonzo" and is located in this country: GB. This item can be shipped to United Kingdom.
