Large Antique Victorian Cabinet Photograph Of Chinese Man In Robes Smoking Opium. This is an amazing piece of Chinese social history, the setting, clothing, props, clothing and expression of the man are all perfect.
The photo image is 21x15cm and the backing board is 26x21cm. The actual image is still in good condition and looks sharpe and detailed. If you don't look at it straight on it has a slight silver tinge but this is only if you look at it from a angle. The backing board shows slight wear and has been wet at some point as you can still see the water mark but it's not damaged the photograph. The man is sitting on a ornate chair wearing silk ropes looking straight at the camera. He is sat with a traditional Chinese box opium pipe in his left hand and what looks like chop sticks in his right. The table has a highly decorated silk hanging from it with a tea tray and small tea pot and cups. The decorated plant pot on the table has a painting on it what looks to be two women. To the left of the table a large plant stand with another plant on it. The floor is covered with a flower patented carpet. This is a extremely rare photograph showing a moment in time in the Far East where photography was very rare.
