Two antique carved wooden signs/screens. Each screen has been carved out of a single piece of wood and so there is no separation between the characters and their pierced background. Date unknown, though I would presume 19th or early 20th century? Both screens bear remnants of a "Jianding" wax seal to the base.
A "Jianding" is a'certified export approval seal mark' and have been issued from around 1949 and are put on items that have been allowed to be exported out of China. Anything made before 1949 is considered a "cultural relic" and cannot be taken out of the country without a government seal and/or an officially stamped receipt. Screens measure roughly 21.5 x 85.5 cm (roughly 8.5 x 34 inches).
Screens weigh roughly 1600 grams together. Structurally sound with few missing bits, splits and old repairs here & there.
