PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR PHOTOS. This is a wonderful Chinese porcelain large mug or tankard with hand painted decoration known as Chinese Imari. This piece dates from the late Kangxi period, around 1720 or so and is a rare surviving example of a special order (chine de commande) from Europe. The shape of the tankard is based on English silver of the period. It has its original lid which was fastened with 2 porcelain loops.
One loop is still on the tankard and one has broken off and the other loop on the lid has also broken off, hardly surprising for an item 300 years old. There is a good amount of original gilding, no hairlines, but there is loss to the glaze on the handle. There is a small chip on the lid rim. See my other Chinese imari porcelain bowl. Measures 5.25 inches tall and 4 inches across (14cm by 10cm). Get images that make Supersized seem small.
