LARGE ANTIQUE JAPANESE PIG SIGNED AMARI LARGE FLOWERS. Rare Antique Japanese / Chinese 11" long x9" high... Hand Painted Enamel Porcelain Pig Figurine signed made for the export market.

This listing is for a pretty pig, adorable with its upturned face, appealing eyes and ready to listen ears. The hand painting is superb with large blue flowers which have orange centres. A variety of coloured leaves in dark browny red, and tan with bamboo tree appearing here and there in grey tones. These leaves cover every side of the pig except the base which is painted grey with the signature mark painted in red. On his rump there are green leaves and grey with a bamboo cane branching into a fork. He has blue painted hoofs, and a very pleasant smile with his nose and nostrils outlined in dark reddy orange. The nostrils and ears have holes necessary during the firing process. Altogether a very pleasing pig Please see all photos.

I cannot find another such pig in proportion or painting style. Though I have found a Japanese cat with the same large blue flowers on "Worthpoint". The red, white and blue colors of these pigs are Chinese/Japanese Imari. The mark was used on artistic porcelains from the late Qing dynasty.

These kind of porcelains have unique Chinese/Japanese Imari characteristic with bright colors and precise hand paintings. A lot of them are animals in pairs like ducks, rabbits, cats and pigs. They represented extremely artistic Chinese/Japanese craftsmanship and they were only made for a short period of time. They are very rare and hard to find... I found this on Google. In Chinese culture, pigs represent good luck, overall good fortune, wealth, honesty, general prosperity, symbolizing a hard working, a peace-loving person, a truthful, generous, indulgent, patient, reliable, trusting, sincere, giving, sociable person with a large sense of humour and understanding. MEASUREMENTS: Height 9" X length 11" X width 6 approx. CONDITION: Excellent, immaculate, antique condition with old patina, no chips nor cracks.
